Water Right for a Lush, Weed-Free New Lawn

Seeding

Watering is the most important factor in establishing a new lawn. Newly seeded lawns that are watered regularly germinate more quickly, establish more densely, and crowd out potential weeds more effectively than non watered lawns.

Without frequent watering, the new seed will not germinate as quickly or as uniformly; allowing weeds and/or old grasses to potentially re-establish themselves in the lawn. Water is the responsibility of the property owner.

  1. Weeks 1 & 2: Water each area 3 times per day for 15 minutes.

  2. Weeks 3 & 4: Water each area twice a day for 20 minutes.

  3. Weeks 5-8: Water each area 30 minutes every other day.

WARNING: Do NOT let the seed dry out.

Balance is Key: Avoid Over-Watering for Healthy Plants Year-Round

Plants. & Shrubs

  1. Weeks 1 & 2: Water each area 3 times per day for 15 minutes.

  2. Weeks 3-12: Water every 2-3 days.

Please remember that it is just as easy to kill a plant by over-watering then it is under-watering. Trees and shrubs should be watered 2-4 inches per week during the summer months of June-September. Other months should be watered approximately 1 inch of water per week and every other day in early spring or fall.
